The feet are like mini maps mirroring the whole body so we can stimulate particular areas through reflexes to encourage better functioning. Did you know you have 7,000 nerve endings in your feet?
The concepts of reflexology are known to date as far back as 2330BC where Egyptian tombs have been found depicting the art of therapeutic foot massage. Chinese acupressure has also been in use for over 5,000 years using thumb pressure to unblock energy lines. Reflexology in its more modern form began to develop in the western world as the knowledge of zonal therapy increased and finally Eunice Ingham became 'the mother' of reflexology with her work in the 1930's.
Main benefits of reflexology
- Reducing stress and aiding deep relaxation
2. Improving circulation
Good circulation means that the body is better able to carry blood and oxygen aroud the body, bringing nutrients where needed and removing toxic waste.
3. It is a holistic treatment
This means that it understands that the body is its own ecosystem. We work on the whole body not just in parts as many issues need targeting on several levels. We aim to look at prevention and well as trying to address any current issues. We may also work with you to think about external factors that may further aid the benefits of the treatment such as your diet or lifestyle.
What reflexology isn't
Reflexology does not diagnose or claim to cure. It does not replace any medical treatment that may be necessary. There are certain conditions that we take precaution with or are unable to treat. We will discuss these with you before commencing treatments with you.
